About Advising
The College of Communication has placed great importance on quality academic advising, and provides a variety of advising resources to students throughout their academic career. It is highly recommended that all students meet with an advisor at least once each term.
The Advising Center in the College of Communication serves undergraduate students who are interested in admission to either the Department of Communication or the Department of Communication Disorders. The Center is comprised of three full-time professional advisors, the peer advisor coordinator – a graduate assistant, and three to five peer advisors formally accepted to one of the majors in the College.
Professional Advisors
Advising First Advisors work full time with the College Advising Center. They work predominantly with first and second year undergraduate students who would like to gain admission into one of the two departments housed within the college.
Peer Advisors. The Peer Advising program in the College of Communication is considered one of the best at Florida State University and has been used as a model in developing similar programs. Peer Advisors must be formally admitted to either the Department of Communication or the Department of Communication Disorders. They are selected for their academic success, interpersonal skills, and their career initiative.
Hours of Operation. The Advising Center is open from 8am to 5pm and operates on an appointment only basis, with the exception of the Drop/Add period when walk-ins are accepted during specified times.
