Zane Odom, M.S. 2003
National Product Manager,
Work Software Systems
Lake Norman, NC
By Emily Larimore, 2008
On paper, Zane Odom appears to be the traditional Florida State University graduate. He received a bachelor’s in communication studies (legal communication) and a double minor in business and history in 1999.
He continued his education at FSU, graduating in 2003 with a master’s in interactive and new communication technologies.
Yet Zane Odom is anything but normal.
“After and during my master's coursework, I traveled throughout Australia, 14 Islands in the Caribbean, and 21 countries in Europe before finishing up my residency at Florida State's Office of International Programs in the Spring of 2003,” Zane says.
After almost eight years in FSU’s Communication Department, Zane was truly familiar with the program. He liked the department because the professors cared about their students, using a hands-on approach and interesting, diverse coursework.
“Interesting coursework, great professors. Definitely find a focus in an area you would like to concentrate on for career goals and aspirations,” Zane advises prospective students.
After almost two years in his first job in computer software, Zane now works for Work Software Systems in Lake Norman, N. C. WSS develops software solutions for the retail market.
With his master’s, Zane’s job as national product manager comes as no mystery appointment. He enters markets in wireless, décor, PC lockdown and human resources assessment with a cultured and diverse background thanks to FSU’s international and communication departments.
It’s almost as if the job was tailor-made just for him and his sophisticated and cultivated personality.
FSU gets the credit.
Zane’s love for FSU is obvious. Reflecting he calls those memories in Tallahassee some of the best of his life.
“Awesome sporting events, great friends... incredible memories. And yeah... classes weren't too shabby either”.
