From Scaring to Sharing, NSSLHA Gets Around this Fall

NSSlHA Provides a Wealth of Activities to Keep Students Involved

NATIONAL STUDENT SPEECH LANGUAGE AND HEARING ASSOCIATION (NSSLHA)

The National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a pre-professional membership association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. National membership is available to undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students enrolled full- or part-time in a communication sciences program or related major.

FSU CHAPTER OF NSSLHA


The Florida State University Chapter of NSSLHA is the local NSSLHA Studentsaffiliate representing FSU in the national organization. FSU NSSLHA supports the national organization mission and philanthropy but there are many events that support the FSU community as well.

FALL 2007 EVENTS


NSSLHA has been busy this fall semester and there's more to come!NSSLHA meetings occur every month and offer students time to socialize and plan upcoming events. The NSSLHA Executive Board or "E-board" meets once a month to conduct business and prepare for meetings of the general membership. Regular membership meetings occur monthly and consist of business matters (event preparation and service activities) as well as a “hot topic” requested by members.

JAPAN STUDY TOUR


In September, a group of physicians and healthcare professionals Japan Study Tourfrom Japan visited the FSU campus to exchange information on “state of the art” treatment for communication disorders in the U.S. NSSLHA provided the following support during that visit: Student guides to locations on campus and transportation from the hotel to lecture sites and social activities. NSSLHA also hosted a research symposium and poster presentation.

CASTLE DREAD


Castle Dread is a Haunted House whose proceeds support the FSU L.L. Schendel Speech and Hearing Clinic. This October, NSSLHA members posed as witches, zombies, and headless wonders, all for a good cause!

ASHA CONVENTION


NSSLHA students will be traveling to Boston for the annual ASHA Convention where students are authors or co-authors on the majority of FSU’s 50 presentations.

2007 NORTH FLORIDA CONFERENCE ON COMMUNICATION DISORDERS


The annual conference will be held on December 7-8th this year. Friday evening, December 7th, will be the NSSLHA Poster session where students and professionals will share their latest research. On Saturday, Heather Clark, Ph.D. will present “Sensorimotor Treatments: Science and Evidence”. This is a great opportunity to share and colloborate on research topics!
