Integrated marketing campaign for Coca-Cola advances to nationals
Team also earns honors for presentation, media plan
Arrowhead Advertising, Florida State's award-winning student advertising team, has won the 2007 4th District National Student Advertising Competition.
The awards were announced the weekend of April 14 in Tampa. The team now advances to the national finals, which will be held June 6-9 in Louisville, Ky.
"This is the third time in five years that we are advancing to the national finals and the fifth in the past nine years," said Barry Solomon, an associate in communication and the team's faculty advisor. "This year's team continues the winning tradition of Arrowhead Advertising and truly exemplifies the quality of students that are attracted to our advertising program."
This year's sponsor, Coca-Cola, challenged more than 200 colleges and universities to increase Coke's sales and brand image by 3 percent among multi-cultural youth ages 13-24. FSU's campaign was so good it prompted one judge to say, "This is good, scary good," and wonder whether our students had inside knowledge about Coke because one of the students' recommendations is a Web site identical to one Coke was preparing the launch the following week.
In addition to winning the competition, Arrowhead also took home prizes for Best Presentation and Best Media Plan.
"The faculty and student commitment to the Advertising Team is exceptional,
and it shows once again in the outstanding quality of their work," said Dr. Steve McDowell, chairman of the Department of Communication.
The members of the winning team are Matthew Crenshaw, Brad Dworkin, Megan Gokey, Jovanna Gomez, Mark Magnani, Krystal Plomatos, Silvana Perolini, Jessica Replogle, Ilyas Sayeg, Laurie-Anna Sicius, Cori Smith, Martha Walker, Susan Watts, and Maggie Windsor.
