The Talwar Grotto Sweetheart Ball

The Marzuq Shrine is sponsoring a Valentine gala the first weekend in February, and part of the proceeds will benefit the FSU Speech and Hearing Clinic.

“The Talwar Grotto Sweetheart Ball” opens at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, and continues until midnight at the Scottish Rite’s Marzuq Shrine Temple at the corner of North Monroe and Tharpe streets. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple.

“This promises to be a fun event, a true Tallahassee experience,” said Dr. Howard Goldstein, chairman of the Department of Communication Disorders, which operates the Speech and Hearing Clinic. “No need to get dressed up -- unless you want to. Casual attire is appropriate.”

Attendees can buy roses for their sweethearts at the dance, and free dance lessons will also be available from 7:30 to 8 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit several charities including the “Dr. Smiles” charity, which provides free dental work for underprivileged youth, and the FSU Speech and Hearing Clinic. The Scottish Rite previously teamed up with the clinic for a Haunted House fund-raiser.
