FSU Freshman Wins Top National Honor
For the second time in four years an FSU freshman has earned the title of the nation’s best novice collegiate speaker. FSU Freshman Joele Denis entered into eight individual events at the 24th annual Novice National Speech and Debate Tournament, where he earned an appearance in the final round in seven of the events, and won three event championships. Denis’ performance was reminiscent of another FSU novice, Lovensky Jean-Baptiste, who shattered all tournament records in 2003 when he appeared in the finals of six individual events and won four event championships.
In overall team standings FSU won 3rd Place on the strength of performances from Ryan Cohn, Greg Smith, John Kimbrough, Michelle Kominarek, and Christina Shavolin. FSU finished above 41 other schools, including The University of Florida, The University of South Carolina, and The United States Air Force Academy.
