Distance Learning Masters Degree

We offer an ASHA certified part-time master's degree for students seeking Speech-Language Pathology Certification. Our program is geared towards part-time SLP assistants working in the Florida school system. Typically, the courses are offered either totally online or as hybrid courses in which students come to campus once or twice during the semester. The students do their clinical work in their location and are supervised by a Regional Coordinator hired by FSU.

There are eligibility requirements for the Distance Learning Program. Currently, we have a location restriction. Applicants must reside in Florida. We cannot provide the program out-of-state. You must also have a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or have completed the necessary prerequisite courses in order to be eligible.

The prerequisite courses we require can be found under lateral entry admissions on this page.

Unfortunately, we do not offer the undergraduate courses online. The eligibility requirements for the masters program must be met by the time the program begins.

Admissions procedures for the online program are the same as the main campus masters program (see above for details). Typically admissions may be for both summer and fall but an online program may not be offered every year. If you meet the minimum eligibility requirements please contact the academic office at (850) 644-2253 for information about the next program start date.

Financial Aid for Prospective Masters Students

Limited department funding is available to students during each admissions cycle.  Due to the limited amount of department aid, prospective students are encouraged to seek external sources to finance their education.  Some sources include:

Financial Aid for Admitted Students to the Masters Program

For admitted students to the masters program, if you are interested in working in the area of language and literacy in the schools, fill out the application and submit it to the department.

Lateral Entry Admission to the Masters Program

Don't have an undergraduate degree from a Communication Disorders program? If you have a bachelor's degree in a non-Communication Disorders field, you can still apply to our program as a lateral entry student. The department accepts a limited number of lateral entry applicants each fall.  Required documents include all of the materials listed above for the Master's program.

Undergraduate prerequisite coursework much be completed before graduate-level courses are taken.  Traditionally, applicants take these courses as graduate students once they have been accepted into the program.  We also encourage applicants to take these courses before applying to the gradaute program if possible. Since our graduate program is competitive and we have a limited number of slots for fall admissions, we strongly encourage lateral entry students to take at least 1 or 2 courses in the Communication Disorders field in order to remain competitive.

The undergraduate courses at FSU are offered in the fall and spring and are not available online. Students interested in taking the prerequisites at FSU must contact the academic office at (850) 644-2253 for more information.  Students cannot take the prerequisites without department permission!  Space may be limited in these classes and may not be available to non-majors at all times.  Please see the lateral entry prerequisite information below.
